Identifying a reputable bird rescue can be tricky for prospective parrot owners, or for those in the sad situation of needing to surrender a bird. We offer some tips on identifying a healthy environment in our article on Assessing Animal Welfare.

Listed below are some of the rescues and sanctuaries that meet the requirements in our proposed Standard of Care bill. Please Contact Us if you need assistance locating a rescue in your area.

COCKATOO RANCH – H.E.A.R.T.

Cockatoo Ranch – H.E.A.R.T. is a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Organization located in White Pigeon, MI. We specialize in cockatoos and pride ourselves on the way we care for our flock. Cockatoos are one of the most re-homed, sold, and surrendered birds. Cockatoo Ranch focuses on proper education for new owners to achieve positive outcomes for the birds and their new families.

BIRDS AND BEAKS

Birds and Beaks is a non-profit parrot rescue located in Battle Creek, Michigan. Real people who have dedicated our lives to rescuing and providing care for real animals, we are not your mama’s rescue! We do things a little different here, and we’re pretty proud of that. We aim to put birds into well educated, qualified homes with people who understand them and love them for the long haul.

GINGER’S PARROT RESCUE

Ginger’s Parrot Rescue is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit organization specializing in Senegal Parrots and Cockatiels. We are located in Casa Grande, AZ and dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption of Parrots.  In order to provide the highest level of care, we only accept a limited number of parrots and have a stringent screening process for adoptions.

COMPANION PARROTS RE-HOMED

The exclusive mission of Companion Parrots Re-homed is to accept companion parrots from unwanted, emergency or crisis situations throughout the Greater Charlotte, North Carolina area. Through training and education, we facilitate new adoptive homes for these sensitive and intelligent birds.

Parrot Sanctuaries

THE OASIS SANCTUARY

The Oasis Sanctuary is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing permanent care, shelter and rehabilitation for companion parrots for which other rehoming options do not exist. Please note that The Oasis does not rehome parrots and this is a final placement.

We also provide an example Memorandum of Understanding for Rescues that need to set expectations with the justice system when temporarily taking a bird into care due to legal action.
